Eric Sweeney is an Irish composer. He is best known for those works which take Irish traditional music as their source material but blend it with minimalist techniques such as phasing, additive process and canon to create highly rhythmic music which demonstrates a mosaic-like texture in a clearly defined tonal framework.
This process began with Dance Music (1989), commissioned for the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, and continued with such works as the String Quartet (1996) and Guitar Concerto (2004).
